Sweet tooth

Os cupcakes da Hummingbird Bakery têm tanto de famosos como de saborosos. São mesmo uma perdição!!! O mais solicitado até pode ser o red velvet, mas o meu preferido é o de cenoura.

Há ainda outros bolos à fatia ou aos quadrados, whoopie pies e algumas maravilhas mais para os olhos. 

E se o conteúdo é delicioso, a apresentação não fica atrás: reparem na caixinha de take-away :-)

The Hummingburd Bakery cupcakes are as famous as delicious. They are really good!!! The most requested one my be the red velvet, but my favourite is the carrot one.
There are other cakes as well, sold by the piece, or whoopie pies and some other delicios treats. But look at the take-away little box: isn't it a sweet?

Já terminei o gorro que me ocupou os últimos serões. Se não o tivesse desmanchado umas quantas vezes já teria um segundo tricotado, mas esse só hoje o comecei. Como optei por fazê-lo em ponto de meia, resolvi adorná-lo com uns botões de fantasia - são giros, não são? E atrás, cosi uma etiqueta das que comprei há dias. Agora é só esperar pelo dia dois, para o oferecer ao aniversariante :-)

I've just finished the hat I was knitting. If I had't undone it several times I would have started a second one. As I made it in a simple stitch I thought that some buttons would look nice on it and I found these little airplanes - aren't they cute? At the back I've sewn one of the labels I bought the other day. Now I only have to wait for a couple of days to give it :-)

Another favourite shop: The Make Lounge

Hoje saí com o propósito de ir descobrir onde ficava a The Make Lounge, pois já há bastante tempo que sigo as actividades desta loja e tinha curiosidade em saber como era na realidade - é que às vezes o que vemos na internet não corresponde bem ao que está lá..., mas saí de lá com vontade de voltar.

Para quem gosta do handmade e do DIY torna-se difícil escolher. Não é que haja muita quantidade, mas a variedade é imensa: carimbos, bordados, serigrafia, patchwork e até decoração de bolos! Se ficar por cá irei, com certeza, tornar-me cliente habitual :-)))

This morning I left home with one thing in my mind: to find The Make Lounge! I've been following its activities for a long time and I was curious about the shop and how it looked like, as sometimes it does not correspond to what we see online, but you know what? I want to come back.

For those, like me, who love handmade and DYI it's hard to choose. It's not that they have a lot of everything, but the variety: stamp making, silk screening, patchwork and cake decoration! If I stay here, I'm sure I'll become a regular customer :-)))

Gosto de objectivos quando estou a fazer alguma coisa, por isso nestes últimos dias coloquei de lado o "cachecol de amostras" que tenho estado a tricotar e comecei um gorro para um menino que vai fazer três anos. Já estava pronto quando comecei a olhar para ele e o achei pequeno, e como tal tive de o desmanchar - não pensem que eu consigo fazer tudo à primeira tentativa - mas já está quase terminado. 

O modelo é muito simples e rápido de fazer: uma barra em malha de bago de arroz e o resto em malha de meia com as diminuições necessárias para lhe dar forma. Mais uma vez escolhi um fio de pura lã da Rowan.

I like to have goals in anything I make or do and that's why for the last few days I've left behind my "scarf of samples" and I've been knitting a hat for a little boy who's soon turnig three. I had it finished when I looked at it and thought it was too small for his had, so I had to start everything from the beginning - don't you think that I can make everything at first - but now it's almost done.

The pattern is very simple: a few rows of moss stitch and the rest in stocking stitch with some decreases to give shape. Once again I used a pure wool yarn from Rowan.

La Poilâne

Se há algo de que tenho saudades é de um bom café, mas na falta de melhor... bebe-se um cappuccino! Há dias estive aqui com a Patrícia e, entretanto já lá voltei sozinha e com a mana :-), pois o café nem é mau e o cappuccino é delicioso e tem esta apresentação a que só estou habituada a ver nas revistas. E não pensem que é mais caro por isso, pois o preço é semelhante ao de qualquer Starbucks.

Já em Lisboa gosto de ir tomar café a sitios giros e acolhedores e se há coisa que aqui não faltam são locais assim :-) Até agora ninguém me impediu de tirar fotografias e enquanto isso acontecer vou partilhando convosco estes pequenos tesouros em que tropeço diariamente.

If there's something I miss that is coffee and as it isn't as good as in Portugal, I always ask for a cappuccino! A few days ago I went to Poilâne with Patricia and after that I've been there by myself and with my sister :-) well, black coffee is not that bad, but when a cappuccino looks like this, I'd rather have it - and don't think that i've paid any extra for this, as the price is about the same as in any Starbucks.

Even in Lisbon I like to go to nice and cosy places and these sort of places are everwhere around here, so I'll keep sharing them with.

Sample knitting

Os dias não são só trabalho e os fins-de-semana não são só passeio :-) e nos intervalos aproveito para tricotar. Comecei a trabalhar com a Beiroa, mas achei que era boa demais para fazer experiências, assim comprei um pequeno novelo de Debbie Bliss, que estava em saldos, e tenho estado a experimentar os diversos pontos do meu livro novo. E não é que até consigo fazê-los? No fim do novelo até sou capaz de ficar com um cachecol engraçado :-)

My days are not only work and my weekends are not only fun :-) and in between I spend my time knitting a little bit. I started working with some Beiroa but I thought it was too good to knit samples, so I bought a Debbie Bliss skein that was on sale and I've been testing some of my new book patterns. And for my own surprise, I can do it! At the end I may have a funny scarf :-)

@Portobello Road Market

São apenas três estações de metro de distância de onde estou, por isso no Sábado lá fui eu para mais um mercado. Não qualquer um, mas um dos mais famosos de Londres e onde as pessoas tropeçam umas nas outras, mas como fui cedo ainda consegui descer a rua com alguma facilidade.

Como sempre, perco-me em pormenores e, muitas vezes os meus olhos vão para o que é menos óbvio, vá-se lá saber porquê, pequenos detalhes que tento captar ou memorizar e, estando eu sozinha não tenho muitas oportunidades de conseguir uma foto minha, mas o senhor da banca de tipografia fez a gentileza de me fotografar, e até não se saiu mal. Não se nota como ando feliz?

It's only three tube stations away from where I am therefore, last Saturday I woke up early and went round. This is one of the most famous markets in London and here you can buy almost anything, but it's so crowded that the best is to go as early as you can.

As usual I get lost in small details - go figure why - that I try to retain in my memory or in my camera and as I'm by myself it's not easy to get a photo where I am, but the owner of a letterpress stall got my camera and shot one. Can you see how happy I am?

No regresso tive de parar na Hummingbird Bakery para provar um dos seus cupcakes (deliciosos, por sinal!), mas...e a caixinha do take away???? Até apetece trazer para casa :-)

On my way back I had to stop at Hummingbird Bakery to try one of their cupcakes (delicious, indeed!), but...what about the little take away box???? I felt like I should bring it home and keep it :-)

Brinquedos antigos...lindos! Os carrinhos e os soldadinhos de chumbo fazem as minhas delícias.

Vintage toys...so beautiful! I just love small cars and little tin soldiers.

Good morning! @ the V & A

Uma boa parte da manhã de hoje foi passada no V&A mas aquele museu é infinito e só vi umas duas ou três salas. Adorei a sala que tem as pinturas de Raphael, as quais serviram de modelo para as tapeçarias que cobrem as paredes da Capela Sistina e estive a vê-las completamente fascinada. Depois fui andando sem rumo, levada pelos olhar e pelas peças que me chamavam a atenção. 

This morning I spent a few hours at the V&A but that is a never ending museum and I could only visit two or three rooms. I was fascinated by the Raphael Cartoons, which served as models for the tapestries that cover the walls of the Sistine Chapel - I stood there for a while completely amazed! Then I wandered around taken by my eyes and some objects that caught my attention.

Another favourite shop: VVRouleaux

A primeira vez que estive em Londres, há cerca de oito anos, descobri esta loja e apaixonei-me por ela. Hoje, já não está no mesmo sítio, mas num outro bem perto e muito bem rodeada. Continua linda e maravilhosa e nesta, sim, é o conteúdo que me encanta: fitas, galões, penas,flores, aplicações de todas as espécies...ahhh, de perder a cabeça e a carteira!

First time I came to London, about eight years ago, I found this shop and I fell in love with it. Nowadays is no longer in the same place, but very close to it and surrounded by many nice shops. It's wonderful, and here is the content that grabs my full attention: ribbons, trims, feathers, flowers and all kind of accessories...ahhh, love it!!!

St. James Park

Hoje de manhã saí para fazer uma caminhada e quando dei por mim já estava em St. James Park. As árvores estão despidas e a relva está verde e por entre os arbustos saltitam esquilos que vêm comer à mão de quem passa. Uma delícia :-)

This morning I went for a long walk and when I noticed I was going through St. James Park. All the trees look naked and the grass is green and jumping through the bushes there are some squirrels that come to us asking for nuts. It's so nice :-)
