Espero, em breve encontrar um local em Londres onde me possa sentar e costurar durante algumas horas sem preocupações, pois além de tudo a costura é um processo quase terapêutico e que me faz bem à alma - penso na vida, não penso em nada, sonho, desenho projectos, vejo o futuro e ganho forças para os dias que se seguem :-)

I hope to find a space in London where I can sit and sew for a few hours whithout any worries. Beyond anything else sewing is almost a healing process - I think about my life, I don't think at all, I dream, I draw projects, I see the future and gain strenght for the days ahead :-)

Xarém

O Xarém é um prato tipicamente algarvio que tem como base a farinha de milho grosseiramente moída, a qual é cozinhada com bastante água e, normalmente leva marisco: conquilha, berbigão, camarão... Antes de me vir embora a minha mãe preparou este para um dos nossos almoços - estava delicioso! Não seguiu nenhuma receita em particular, mas para que não fiquem sem saber exactamente com se faz, podm espreitar aqui: Xarém Rico

Treats

Na quinta-feira à tarde passei um bom par de horas à conversa com a Sofia, o que é sempre agradável, pois ela é um amor de pessoa - é mesmo daquelas que vale a pena conhecer! E qual não foi a minha surpresa quando ela me ofereceu um pequeno mimo :-) - que veio comigo e já está na mala, no entanto vou ter de o forrar para não se estragar...

É mesmo giro, não é, o meu caderno novo? (vai ser para encher de recortes, ideias, autocolantes e muita washi tape :-P)

Last Thursday I spent a couple of hours chatting with Sofia, which is always a pleasure, as she's is such a lovely person - the sort of person is worth to meet! And I was surprised by a treat she brought me which I'm already carrying (I think I'll have to cover it so it doesn't get damaged...)

It's really nice, isn't it? (I'm going to fill it with ideas, scraps, stickers and a lot of washi tape :-P)

My London quilt

Gosto de ver as peças terminadas, pois sei que se as deixar a meio ou se levar muito tempo com elas lhes perco o gosto - porque começo outros projectos - e o que deveria ser prazeroso torna-se um sacrifício. Assim, e também porque o queria por a uso, ontem estive até quase à meia noite a coser o debrum do meu quilt.
A frente foi feita com quadrados de 12,5cm x 12,5cm (5 inches x 5 inches) onde inseri um charm pack Riley Blake que comprei há pouco tempo e a parte de trás foi feita sem grande ordem, apenas para aproveitar as sobras dos restantes tecidos.

O dia está feio para fotos, e quer dentro quer fora de casa a diferença não é muita... é o que se tem! Oh saudades do meu estendal soalheiro :-)))

I like to finish everything I start in a short period of time because I know if I take to long or if I start other projects, something that started as something good will become a sort of a nightmare. Therefore, and also because I wanted to use it, it was nearly midnight yesterday when I finished sewing the binding of my London quilt.
The top is a mix and match of 12,5cm (5 inches) squares where I used a Riley Blake charm pack which I bought and the back was made from the left overs of the remaining fabrics.

The wather is awfull and there's no light to shoot some nice photos neither inside, nor outside! Here's another reason to miss my washline back in Portugal always under the sun :-)))

WIP: my London quilt

Decidi chamá-lo assim porque o fiz com o propósito de o trazer na bagagem (sim, já cheguei e deparei-me com o tempo feio e chuvoso - nada que não tivesse tido nestes dias em Portugal...) e estou neste momento a terminá-lo, isto é, a coser o debrum. já está terminado!

Neste quilt usei duas coisas que nunca tinha usado: o debrum cortado a viés e o enchimento, que também é 100% de algodão, mas em vez de ser uma "pasta" como o tradicional wadding (batting é a palavra americana) usei o que em Portugal chamamos de baetão. Não podia estar mais satisfeita com o resultado, pois funcionou na perfeição - o quilt ficou com a espessura e pesos perfeitos e é igualmente bastante maleável. É sem dúvida um material a repetir!

I decided to call it like this because I made it on purpuse to bring with me in the luggage (yes, I'm back in London and the weather is awfull - well, not very different from the days I spent in Portugal...) and I'm now finishing it, which means that I'm sewing the binding. it's now been finished!

For this quilt I used two things I had never used before: a bias binding which I made from a gingham fabric and instead of the traditional wadding (batting in American English) I used a thick cotton fabric which in Portuguese is called "baetão". I couldn't be happier with the result, because it worked out to be perfect - the thickness and the weight of the quilt are perfect at the same time is is soft and comfortable. No doubt I'm going to use this again!

Friendship bracelets

Elas estão de volta! e fazem-me lembrar os meus tempos de miúda em que prendia as linhas ao fundo de uma cadeira e, sentada num banco, levava horas a dar nozinhos em linhas coloridas - raro era o dia em que não assaltava o cesto de linhas de crochet da minha avó :-)

Na altura não havia Internet, nem tampouco tutoriais facilmente disponíveis - agora basta colocar no Google as palavras certas e os resultados aparecem de imediato :-)

They are back!!! and they remind me my childhood when I used to spend many hours tying little knots with all the available colours my grandmother had at home :-) I used to pin the threads to the bottom of a straw chair and sit on a small bench.

On those days we couldn't imagine such thing as the Internet would exist and there weren't any tutorials available - now you only have to Google whatever you want and it gives you the answer :-)

A quilt to take to London

O fim-de-semana foi passado em casa e aproveitei que o tempo não esteve muito bom para passar algumas horas no atelier. Além de umas echarpes, semelhantes às de inverno, mas muito primaveris, fiz também o topo de um quilt que quero terminar antes de regressar a Londres.

O esquema é bastante simples: quadrados de diversos tecidos conjugados quase ao acaso. Deve ficar com pouco mais de um metro quadrado, mas é o suficiente para colocar em cima da minha cama, ou levar para o parque aos domingos à tarde :-)

I spent last weekend at home and as the weather wasn't good I spent a few hours in my study. I made a few scarves, similar to the winter ones, but much fresher and I also made the top for a quilt I want to finish before I return to London.

The pattern is very simple: different fabric squares displayed without any particular order. In the end it must measure one square metre, but that is enough to put on my bed or to take with me to the park on a Sunday afternoon :-)

From Lisbon with LOVE

Tenho aproveitado estes últimos dias para passear por Lisboa, rever amigos e estar em alguns lugares onde me sinto verdadeiramente em casa, daí a ausência e a falta de notícias aqui no blog.

I've spent these last couple of days walking around Lisbon, visiting some friends and going to some places where I feel very comfortable, therefore I've been away from the blog.

Tutorial: Chalkboard labels

Há umas semanas que ando a pensar neste tutorial, mas só agora me foi possível realizá-lo, pois não tinha quaisquer materiais comigo. E que tal colocar umas etiquetas em frascos que se possam reutilizar? A tinta de ardósia é perfeita para o efeito!

I've been thinking about putting together this tutorial for the last few weeks, but only now it was possible to do it. What about making some labeled jars that you can re-use? Chalkboard paint is perfect for this!

Chalkboard labels

Materiais:

Frascos de compota, iogurte, pickles, etc

Pincel de cerda sintética

Tinta de ardósia

Fita-cola de pintor

X-acto para retirar os excessos

Materials:

Any sort of jars - jam, youghurt, pickles, etc

Synthetic brush

Chaklboard paint

Masking tape

Pen-knife to remove the excess

Instruções:
Instructions:

  Delimitar a área da etiqueta usando a fita cola de pintor
Outline the label with masking tape

Com o pincel bem seco aplicar a tinta de ardósia - o vidro não é uma superfície fácil de pintar, por isso optei por não ser perfeccionista, assim o aspecto não é liso
Using a clean and dry brush paint the label on the jar - the glass is not an easy surface, so I decided not to be perfectionist and the look of the label is not completely smooth

Depois de bem seco, retirar a fita-cola e com o x-acto raspar os excessos e imperfeições
Leave it to dry and then remove the masking tape. With the pen knife the excess can be easily removed.

Por fim, é só colocar a uso!!!
Now it's ready to be used!!!

Home Sweet Home

Está a saber-me bem o regresso, ainda que por uns dias, e ontem fui matar saudades de uma das coisas que sinto mais falta em Londres: o mar! O cheiro do mar, o azul do céu e a areia molhada - abençoada praia mesmo à porta de casa :-)

It's good to be home - even if it's only for a few days. Yesterday I went to the beach, one of the things I miss most! The smell of the see, the blue sky and the wet sand - oh, how nice is to live near the beach :-)

Curiosities: Cocco Chanel

Que dia maravilhoso esteve ontem! Sol e algum calor foram o mote para ir passear até Covent Garden :-) Já nem sei porquê, ao andar por lá, comecei a reparar que nos candeeiros de rua aparecia o símbolo que me pareceu da Chanel, assim quando cheguei a casa fui ao Google e procurei alguma informação sobre o assunto.

Fiquei a saber que Cocco Channel e o Duque de Westminster tiveram um affair, e ele como prova do seu amor mandou inscrever o símbolo em todos os postes de Westminster. Verdade ou Lenda? Não se sabe!

Yesterday the weather was gorgeous: sunny and hot! This made me go for a walk around Covent Garden :-) and I don't know why I noticed the Chanel symbol all over the lampposts in the area, so when I got home I googled for some information and I found that Cocco Chanel had an affair with the Duke of Westiminster and he commissioned them as a symbol of hil love. Is this true or is a legend? No one knows!

Boys, girls and a heart

Tenho andado ocupada e quase sem tempo para me dedicar às aguarelas, ainda assim o sossego das noites e alguns momentos de descanso servem para abrir o estojo de aguarelas e montar o meu mini espaço de trabalho :-) Assim, entre tarefas surgem mais três pequenos quadros prontos a emoldurar e que estão disponíveis através do Facebook ou do Etsy (dentro de momentos)

I've been so busy that I hardly have time to spend doing what I like the most, even though when everyone is already asleep I take out my watercolour box and set my tiny studio up :-) Therefore, inbetween my daily tasks I managed to get these three pictures ready to be framed and they will be available from Facebook or from the Etsy shop (in a few moments)
