Baptismo

Há muito tempo que não recebia uma encomenda de peças para Baptismo e foi com imenso prazer que fiz esta vela e a toalha a combinar. Já está no correio, devidamente acondicionada e espero que chegue em boas condições :-)

It's been a while since I last made something for a Christening and I was very pleased to make this candle and matching towel. It's on it's way and I hope it gets to its destination in good condition :-)

Sneak Peek

Além da minha manta de crochet, durante a semana passada não fiz literalmente NADA! Mas como eu não tenho feitio para ficar parada muito tempo, já estou a trabalhar neste pequeno projecto :-)

Last week I did NOTHING but a bit of crochet, but as you know I'm the sort of person who needs to make something all the time, therefore I'm already working in this small project :-)

Heaven on Earth

Palavras para quê? Não há céu azul como este. Não há paz como neste local.

No need to say anything! The sky here is bluer than anywhere else. This is the most peaceful place on earth.

Beach mode

Apesar das nuvens de manhã, esta semana ainda não consegui desligar o meu "modo de praia" e já apanhei mais sol que nos últimos três meses, se bem que me têm dito que o tempo em Londres está uma brasa :-)

Despite the clouds in the morning I've been on beach mode all week and I've had more sun in these last few days than in the past three months...although I've been told that Summer has also arrived in London :-)

Weather forecast: cloudy!

Vim à procura do sol e parece que trouxe o tempo comigo... Hoje de manhã o dia acordou feio e frio, mas nem isso impediu um passeio até à praia, onde não pus o pé no areal mas aproveitei para "crochetar" na esplanada :-)

I was looking for the sun, but it looks like I brought the weather with me... This morning it was cold and cloudy, but that didn't stop me from going to the beach where I didn't dare to step the sand and I stayed on a terrace drinku«ing coffee and making crochet :-)

É bom estar em casa rodeada dos que me são queridos.

Apeteceu-me gritar "felicidade" assim que pus o pé em território nacional.
Quis dar saltos de alegria e por dentro só me vinha uma palavra à cabeça : CALOR!!!!

No entanto foi um regresso algo amargo...

Porquê?
Porque foi impossível, ao sobrevoar a Serra do Caldeirao, não sentir um aperto no estômago e uma raiva imensa por estar a ver lá em baixo a dimensão do flagelo do incêndio que deflagrava. Uma coisa é ver na tv, ou os feeds das notícias no computador, outra coisa é ver o vermelho das chamas a pairar no negro da noite. E no dia seguinte acordar, a uns bons quilómetros de distância, com uma nuvem de fumo em cima e a visão toldada pelo mesmo.

E saber que quem quer que tenha provocado isto destrói o seu próprio mundo, acaba com a sobrevivência de muitos e no final sai completamente impune. É revoltante!

Perdoem-me este desabafo negro no meio do meu mundo que gosto de pintar de cor-de-rosa...

It feels good to be home surrounded by my beloved family.

I felt like shouting out loud "HAPPINESS" as soon as I landed in Faro.

I wanted to jump high and only one this was on my head: "WOW IT'S HOT!" :-)

But it was a bitter return...

Why?

As we were approaching land it was impossible not to notice the enormous fire under our feet. It's completely different to watch it on the tv or reading the news feeds on the internet from looking the bright red flames illuminating the dark night and burning everything they touch. And on the next day I woke up with a smoke cloud above my head...

And its sad to know that the people who made this is destroying their own world and other people's world, is in the end, delacred not guilty. It's revolting!

I'm sorry for these sad words among my fairy tale world...

My space

Apesar de todas as limitações, continuo a fazer deste espaço O MEU ESPAÇO! Aproveito caixas, caixinhas, frascos e embalagens para guardar os meus materiais e na parede vou colocando algumas fotos que, de algum modo, me trazem momentos e pessoas felizes à memória.

Despite all the limitations, I try to turn this space into MY SPACE! I reuse boxes, jars and packaging to keep my crafting materials and on the wall I stick photos which bring happy moments and lovely people to my mind.

MPF=Monday Pinterest Favourites

Há pelo menos duas semanas que ando com uma obrigação na cabeça: tenho de encontrar um vestido em tons de amarelo!!! Porquê? Porque foi o dress code aprovado para o jantar mais esperado do ano com o meu grupo de amigas de sempre! (Pirosice??? Nem pensem! o efeito nas fotos é genial, acreditem) e como o Pinterest é A fonte de inspiração do momento, aí fui eu em procura do amarelo :-)

It's been at least two weeks that I have a goal to achieve: to find a yellow outfit!!! Why? Well, this was the dress code approved for the most awaited event of the year with my group of forever friends! (Kitsh? Don't even think about it! The photos will look great, believe me) and as Pinterest is nowadays a main source of inspiration I went there to look for yellow :-)

Crochet samples

De casa da minha avó veio um livro com amostras de crochet feitas por ela e já a minha mãe costumava usar agendas antigas para guardar pequenas amostras de tricot com os respectivos esquemas, lãs e espessura de agulhas.

Ultimamente, também eu tenho feito várias experiências, uma vez que estou a aprender a dominar a técnica do crochet, mas em vez de guardar as amostras resolvi transformá-las em pequenos quadros para colocar no atelier - sim, vou levá-las comigo na bagagem!

I remember seing at my grandmother's house a handmade book with samples of crochet stitches and also my mother used to reuse old diaries to keep track of knitting stiches with patterns, yarns and needel sizes.

Lately, I've been also collecting crochet samples but instead of hiding them I thought that they would be nice to display in my study on little canvas - yes, they are traveling with me to Portugal!

Zankyou magazine

A familia sabe. Alguns amigos também. Desde miúda que tenho uma paixão secreta pelo mundo dos casamentos - conta a minha mãe que a fazia parar em tudo quanto era montra de vestidos de noivas, por isso o convite da Marta para ser guest blogger da Zankyou Magazine foi irrecusável desde o primeiro momento.

A partir de hoje podem encontrar-me aqui e seguir, quinzenalmente, o que tenho para partilhar convosco. Obrigada pela vossa companhia!

My family knows. Some of my friends also know. Since I was a little girl that I have a secret crush on weddings - my mother tells me that I would make her stop at every window that had wedding dresses, so when I recieved Marta's invitation to be a guest blogger at Zankyou Magazine I just couldn't refuse it.

Perfectionism

As diferenças entre as rosetas da esquerda e as da direita é tão óbvia que nem me vou dar ao trabalho de perguntar se as notam. Excedi-me na confiança e quando dei por mim já tinha mais de uma dúzia delas com uma malha muito mais larga que as primeiras que fiz - um horror! 

Ainda hesitei, mas acabei por desmanchá-las todas e fazê-las como eu acho que ficam mais bonitas. A prova de que as da direita estavam bem maiores são as pontas de linha que sobraram ao refazer as rosetas.

Agora sim, posso continuar o trabalho!

The differences between the sqares on the left compared to the ones on the right are so obvious that I don't dare to ask you if you notice them. Excess of confidence, I would call it - and when I noticed I had more than a dozen of granny squares in a much looser stitch than the first ones I made - awful!

I confess I hesitated, but in the end I unmade all the granny squares and made them again the way I think they look prettier.

The proof the ones on eht right wer bigger is the leftovers of yarn left from the second time I made them.

Now I can proceed with the work!

Pancakes

Esta receita de panquecas está na família há sensivelmente 36 anos e desde que nos foi dada por uma tia nunca mais quisemos saber de outra. Primeiro era a mãe que a fazia lá em casa e eu faço-a desde que tive autorização para mexer no fogão, isto é, há muitosss anos!

Receita:
1 chávena de farinha
1 chávena de leite
1 ovo
1 pitada de sal
1 colher de chá de fermento
1 1/2 de sopa de azeite
3 colheres de sopa de açúcar

Bate-se tudo, deixa-se repousar um pouco e faz-se as panquecas numa frigideira untada com um pouco de manteiga.
Como medida para cada panqueca eu uso uma colher de sopa.

  
This pancake recipe has been in the family for about 36 years and since it was passed on to us by an aunt we've never made any other one. First it was my mother who used to make them but since I got permission to cook - many years ago!-  I also make them :-)


Recipe:
1 cup of flour
1cup of milk
1 egg
1 sprinkle of salt
1 tea spoon of baking powder
1 1/2 spoons of olive oil
3 spoons of sugar


Mix everything into a batter and leave it to rest for a while. Make the pancakes in a non-sticky pan  with a bit of butter. I usually use a spoon as a measure for each pancake.

Favourite magazines: Mollie Makes

As revistas são um vício terrível e quando se está num país em que as há às dúzias, então "temos o caldo entornado!", mas como diz a minha mãe: "não fumo, nem bebo por isso posso-me dar ao luxo deste prazer". Em Portugal já comprava a Mollie Makes, mas tinha de esperar sempre semanas até que ela estivesse nas bancas, por isso conseguem imaginar a minha felicidade ao poder adquiri-la no próprio dia em que sai? Hoje de manhã passei em Victoria Station e vim a pé até casa a folheá-la, sendo que este número está tão giro que senti o dever de partilhar algumas páginas convosco.

Magazines are a terrible addiction and when you are in a country where there are dozens of different ones - OMG!, but as my mother says: "I don't smoke, I don't drink so I can afford this little pleasure". In Portugal I used to buy Mollie Makes but I had to wait for weeks for it to be available, therefore can you imagine my thrill just for being able to buy it on the same day it is issued? This morning I stopped at Victoria Station to get it and as I walked home I went through it - this issue is soooo nice that I felt I had to share some of its pages with you.

WIP: Granny squares throw

A minha manta continua a crescer devagar :-) e o mais certo é aproveitar as horas de praia (já sonho com elas...) para fazer uns quadrados de crochet. 

My throw keeps growing at a very slow pace :-) and I think this is what I'm going to do while I lay on the beach (I'm dreaming of this...):granny squares!

Tutorial: Fabric yarn

Há algum tempo que queria experimentar fazer fio para tricot ou crochet a partir de tecido, mas achei que sem um fuso não seria possível, até que ontem ao olhar para as minhas canetas e para as molas de madeira pensei: "hummm por que não?" e assim foi, experimentei, deu resultado e fiz este tutorial para partilhar convosco - é fácil e não é preciso ser-se cientista para que dê certo :-)

It's been a while that I meant to try making this fabric yarn either to crochet or to knit, but I thought that without a spindle it wouldn't be possible, but yesterday looking at my pens and my wooden pegs I thought "hummm, why not?", so I gave it a try and it worked perfectly. As a result I made this tutorial to share with you - it's easy and you don't need to be a scientist for it to work :-)

Material:

Tecido

Tesoura ou cortador rotativo + base de corte

Molas de roupa, canetas, lápis ou qualquer outro objecto onde enrolar o fio

 

Tools:

Fabric

A pair of scissors or rotary cutter+mat

Cloth pins/pen/pencil (something you can use to wrap the yarn around)

1. Cortar o tecido em tiras. As minhas têm cerca de meio centímetro de largura

1. Cut the fabric in strips. Mine are about 0,5cm whide

2. Atar as pontas das tiras com pequenos nós

2. Tie with little knots the ends od the stips so you make one long one

3. Segurar uma das pontas ao objecto que vai ser usado como fuso e com a ajuda dos dedos ir torcendo o tecido e enrolando à sua volta

3. Hold one of the ends to the object that you are going to use as a spindle and with your fingers twist the fabric and wrap it up around your "spindler".

Assim que tiverem uma determinada quantidade poderão usá-lo como se fosse um fio normal :-)

As soon as you have a certain amount you can use it as normal yarn :-)
